Well, my friend Derrick has found a place to live in Lyndeboro, NH (a town right next to Milford.) Apparently he needs a roommate to help share the cost of the place, and the person who he was going to live with may not be able to, so he asked me if I would be interested in taking the other guy’s place. It wouldn’t be quite as cool as having my own place, but it would still be pretty neat, and from the sound of it, it’s pretty close to where I am now.
Could turn out to be interesting.
Went and played pool at Boston Billiards with Andrea and Matt T. last night. We played one round of normal pool (8 ball?) and a couple rounds of cutthroat. I was doing horribly to start with, but won the last game with all of my balls still on the table. It was fun.
Afterwards, Matt let me borrow all his pictures from the ‘99 trip to Europe, which I’m going to scan and get up on the web. I’d also like to put together a CD with a bunch of pictures from the trip. If any of the other people who went on the trip read this and would like their pictures included (and a copy of the CD) please drop me a line.
Only about one day of work left here. Had lunch at Rick’s. Very very full now.
Well, two days left at work. Today we held a meeting so that I could explain all our wonderous email related programs to the rest of the department. It went okay. It’s not nearly as complicated as it was before, largely thanks to some nifty scripts I’ve written. Tomorrow there’s another meeting where the rest of my knowledge will be sucked out of me. Wheee!
I’ve also been working on some updates to my website. I’ve redone the picture page, now with multiple pages for different sets of images. Instead of the page being static, it’s now dynamically generated from text in the thumbnail images, so all I have to do to add a new image is drop it in and generate it’s thumbnail. Also, the navigation bar at the top of the page now expands to two lines when you go to the journal or pictures area.
For some behind the scenes stuff, I’ve redone my online editing section, using a single Mason component that generates a form based on the output of a ‘describe’ command from MySQL. It makes it so there’s just one set of scripts that can handle editing my friends, games, and links (and movies and palm apps, if I ever get around to adding them.) Also, everything is now in CVS, so I can do revision tracking of what I do, mainly to get used to using CVS.
I think for future updates I may make an automatic acronym tag filter or something simpler like changing the rest of the graphics over to PNG. I should probably find out how well IE 6 handles them.
Went out with Andrea last night to see American Pie 2. I’ve never seen all of the first one, so I think I missed about 90% of the jokes. Some parts were still funny to me though. I think I’ll have to watch the first one at some point now.
I’m trying to make a nice image gallery sort of thing for my web page using HTML::Mason. Right now the pictures are maintained by hand. I’d like to come up with a way to have them dynamically generated from the comments field in the image. I’d like to find a tool to insert comments into JPEG files without re-encoding them (so as to avoid the quality loss.) Haven’t found anything yet though. Maybe if I just put the comments in the thumbnails…
I forgot how much I like tapioca. It’s great stuff.
Well, after a bit of thinking, I’ve decided to change jobs. SimPro Controls, the company I worked for before starting at Net-Temps, offered me a full time job back with them, and I’ve decided to take it. This means that in two short weeks I’ll be working about 3 miles from my house instead of 30, and won’t have to deal with Mass state income tax anymore. :o) I’m pretty excited about the new job, since I’ll be able to get back into dealing with sys admin type things as well as programming, which I was beginning to miss, and I will no longer have to send out billions of emails each week. I will miss some things however, mostly the lunches at Rick’s and Sal’s with the 978 people.
Other than that, not much has been going on. I’ve been house sitting for one of my mother’s coworkers in Amherst for the past week, and will be for the next week. On Saturday, I and a bunch of other people (Matt, Evil Dave, Derek, Good Nick, Evil Nick, Dan, Jen, Liza, and Scott) went to see a sneak preview of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back in Lowell. Unfortunately, Andrea was busy working that day, so she missed it. It’s a great movie, if you’re into Kevin Smith movie. Otherwise, I’m not sure you’d get most of the jokes. See Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy first, I guess.
I finally got a haircut too, though I still need new shoes.
