Well, I got my motherboard, CPU, memory, and hard drive on Monday with no problems. My chassis and heatsink didn’t arrive till today. Or rather, my chassis didn’t arrive till today. The heatsink and thermal compound I ordered are nowhere to be seen. This is causing me to be very unhappy, seeing as I need these to make my new computer work. Just in case anyone was wondering, CoolerGuys.com has perhaps the crappiest order tracking system on the planet. I would never order from them again, and I suggest no one who ever reads this does either.

The good folks at mwave finally decided to talk to me, and we managed to work out an arrangement whereby the Leadtek GeForce 3 Titanium 500 card I wanted has been replaced by a Visiontek GeForce 3 Titanium 500 card. And it’s on it’s way to me now!
So, as it stands, I should be getting the motherboard, CPU, memory, and hard drive on Monday, followed by the chassis, heatsink, and thermal paste on Tuesday, then the video card on Friday. So Friday night/Saturday I can assemble the bits and pieces and have myself a new wondrous system! yay!
So, anyone up for some LAN gaming next weekend?
Also, just got back after going to see Behind Enemy Lines with Andrea. I didn’t think it was that great a movie. I’ll probably post a review of it tomorrow. Had to stop into work to get my checkbook, and decided to check my email, which led to the beginning of this post.

Good and bad news surrounding the wonder that will be my new computer. First, the good news, nearly everything has shipped and is now on it’s way to me. The mboard, CPU, RAM, and hard drive should be here Monday, with the case and heatsink arriving on Tuesday. Notice something missing? Yeah, well, that’s the bad news. mwave, the place I purchased most of the components from, now lists the Leadtek WinFast GeForce3 Titanium 500 video card as “Discontinued.” The card was just released in October, so it seems a little odd to me to discontinue it so soon.
I guess I’ll be stuck with the TNT2 Ultra for a little while longer. Nothing can ever go smoothly with these things. Hopefully I don’t run into as much trouble assembling it and getting it running as I have with just ordering it.

Yeah, let’s see…. Dave’s going back to school today, and won’t be around till Christmas. My Dad’s going to coming out here just before Christmas, which will be cool. It’s rare that he comes to see me, I usually go out there to see him. He’s bringing me some much needed and appreciated furniture, which is good.
Yesterday, Andrea and I went to the Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro or some such place in Mass. She really wanted to go shopping at Torrid (apparently there are only like 6 of them in the country. She was very happy to go.) I managed to get most of my Christmas shopping done, with presents for Andrea, mom, Ralph, Jason, Stacey, and Derrick. I think that’s all of them. I’d like to get something for Dave and Matt, and maybe Nick, though I’m not sure if I’ll see Nick. I hope I’m not forgetting anymore. I’ve already ordered something for my dad, I think he’ll like it. Also, I bought a new poster for myself. It’s an Evil Dead poster. yay!
Hopefully parts for the computer will start shipping today. That would be nice.

It just occurred to me that if I stay here till 6am, I will have already worked 8 hours. Woot!!!
I wasn’t even tired till about 15 minutes ago, then it just kindof all hit me at once. Maybe it’s just the caffeine wearing off. At least the code mostly works now. This kindof reminds me of doing upgrades at JLC. Only I’m the only one here now. At JLC we used to get a bunch of people together for upgrades, mainly so people could learn, and help keep the other people awake. I kindof miss that. Ah well.
Oh sure, I could have come in earlier than 10pm on Sunday, but I spent the day with the girl I love instead. So thppppb. Too bad I didn’t get more done on Saturday though. Chip tired. Chip hoping Big Dave comes in at 6 like he claims he does so Chip has proof he was here. Chip now refer to self in third person. yay!
I think I will stop writing now.

I’ve been doing a bit of Christmas shopping, but mostly for myself so far
I’ve priced out and have ordered an all new computer for myself. The parts are as follows:
- AMD AthlonXP 1800+ CPU
- Gigabyte GA-7VTXE motherboard
- LeadTek GeForce3 Titanium 500 graphics card
- 512MB PC2100 ECC DDR memory
- IBM Deskstar 60GXP 60GB hard drive
- and a slick new aluminum chassis
With any luck, I’ll get it near the end of next week. Hopefully in time to have a bit of a LAN party next weekend. Matt will still be around then, unfortunately Evil Dave will have left. Ah well.
In other news, I hurt my back last weekend, and it’s been hurting all week. Today is the best it’s been yet, so I’m rather happy. Matt, Evil Dave, and I went and saw Harry Potter on Wednesday night. It was better than I was expecting it to be. I have read the books, and liked them, but wasn’t expecting the movie adaption to be all that good. I was pleasantly surprised.
Tonight, Andrea and I will probably be going to see Behind Enemy Lines, which looks pretty good. She’s on her way to meet me here at SimPro now. yay!
