This Sucks

January 25th, 2002 No comments

Last night, while returning to Andrea’s apartment after we went out for dinner, I managed to be a total idiot and slipped on some ice and fell. At the time, everything seemed to be in order. Later that night, when I went home, my left hand started to hurt. It eventually got bad enough that I couldn’t sleep, so I went to the medical center this morning to have it checked out.

A few x-rays later, it turns out to be a bad sprain with a bit if bone broken off from one if the bones in my forearm. No cast, but it hurts like hell. Medical advice is to keep it wrapped so it doesn’t wiggle around much, and to take Motrin. The doctor said it should be better in 2 to 3 weeks.

For now, it means one handed typing, which sucks. No IRC or Counterstrike for a bit.

More Snow

January 22nd, 2002 No comments

Bah, it’s snowing again. Snow makes it annoying to do anything around here. Don’t want to drive to Nashua in the snow to go shopping. Don’t want to drive to Manchester in the snow to see Andrea, though I might do that anyway. Don’t really want to drive in Lyndeborough with the snow either.

Weekend Update

January 21st, 2002 No comments

Just thought I’d make a quick post about what I’ve done this weekend. Friday night, I did nothing. Saturday, I went with Andrea and her parents to the Emerald Square Mall, so Andrea could shop at Torrid. She bought a couple of things and seemed pretty happy. We then went to her parents house, had dinner with her grandparents, and played some Worms and Uno. I won at Worms, lost at Uno.

After that, I went over to Jason’s house for game night, we ended up watching his DVD of Buckaroo Bonzai, which was cool. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the whole thing before. I’ve got a copy of the DVD too now, which is cool. Then because the roads weren’t great, I went to SimPro and played some CS.

Today, I’ve been working on some code for SimPro. Andrea’s been bored, and wanted me to come over, but I really needed to get some stuff done here. I hope she’ll want to do something tomorrow night.

Stupid!

January 18th, 2002 No comments

I really need to start getting to bed at a reasonable hour. Preferably the same reasonable hour each night. Last night I left Andrea’s parents’ house around 11, thinking I’d just stop in at Jason’s house to give him the check to give to Kris, then I’d be on my way. But no, I got to Jason’s house, gave him the check, and kind of stuck there. We ended up talking about old IRC people and stuff, and I ended up staying there till like 4. Andrea’s probably going to me mad at me. :(

duh, I’m Dante

Yeah, I know I hate it when other people post these things, but just this once I think it’s okay.

You have a very simple view of life, and it takes a lot of convincing to get you to break your routine. You seem to overreact over petty things, and your one track mind keeps you from focusing in on your main problem: the fact that you never let go of the past. You’re too busy thinking about what used to be that you don’t notice the wonderful things you have right in front of you. You fail to appreciate your interesting adventures because of the broken record playing in your head: “I’m not even supposed to be here today!”

Trees

I think you know you live in the middle of nowhere when you have to throw trees out of the road in order to get home after a snow storm. It was kindof fun though.

Stuffage

January 12th, 2002 No comments

Andrea was bugging me that I haven’t written an update here for a while, so here we go.

I’ve been working on a new version of cmail, my mail counting script. It’s a complete rewrite of version 4, and I think I’ll call it 4.1. It’s got pretty much the same modular interface that 4 did. It currently supports mbox, maildir, and POP3, and I’m going to make an IMAP4 module for it. So far it’s only got plain text and color text output modules. I think I might make a Gnome panel output module at some point.

Why this sudden rewrite? Well, I messed up the CVS repository that the old version was in, and I needed to add maildir support. Why maildir support? Because I switched all my incoming mail from mbox to maildir, since we’re thinking about putting Courier IMAP on Hindenburg, and it only supports maildir. So far I’m pretty happy with the format.

Andrea’s roommate gave me an old laptop she was going to throw out. It’s a Toshiba T4500C. It appears to have a 200MB hard drive, 12MB of RAM, and a 486 CPU. Not sure on the clock speed yet. I’ll figure it out eventually. It had a 3Com 3C562 Ethernet/Modem PC Card in it, but it’s missing the dongles, so it’s kindof useless. If I can find dongles, then I may use this as a dial-up router at home. Might be interesting. Right now it’s installing FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE over a serial PPP link at 57600bps. This may take a while.
