Stupid Heatsink
I left SimPro last night with my computer working fine, everything spinning happily away, everything more or less as good as it gets. I come back today, and the keyboard lights are on, and nothing else. “Oh, no problem,” I think to myself, and go to press the power button. Nothing happens. I figure the UPS tripped badly, so I check that. Nope, working fine. So I pull apart my machine, and figure out that the heatsink has fallen off the CPU. “Oh crap!” I think to myself. I pull it apart, get the heatsink back on, try to power it up. Nothing. I figure the CPU is dead.
I go to CompUSA. I buy a new CPU. I get back to SimPro. I try it out. Nothing.
I check the bottom of the old CPU. It has scorch marks.
I figure now the motherboard is dead as well. I’ve contacted mwave.com to see if it’s still covered by warranty. Hopefully it is, and I’ll be able to get a new mboard by midweek. Till then, no CS.
Man, 2002 has sucked so far. I hope it doesn’t get any worse.
