Personal Blogging

March 9th, 2012 3 comments

So I’ve been giving some thought about whether or not to keep this site around. Clearly I don’t post very often, and I don’t really hold any illusions about being a great and popular blogger. I think my friends and family mostly keeps tabs on me through Twitter or Facebook these days, so I don’t think it’s terribly valuable for that anymore.

I started blogging back in the LiveJournal days, when all the cool kids were into it. Eventually I got annoyed with them and moved to my own system, originally running my own stuff coded in HTML::Mason, then moving through MoveableType and Blosxom before settling with everyone else on WordPress. And these days it seems like I spend more time updating WordPress than I do writing blog posts.

There are also other blogs hosted on Hindenburg that I could spend time writing on if I wanted to, such as Hindenburg’s own blog, which might get more people to donate toward it’s hosting.

So, overall, what do people think? Should I try to write more often? Here? Elsewhere? On what topics? Or should I throw in the towel and make this a redirect over to about.me?

Electrical Issues

June 25th, 2005 2 comments

Old building wiring is such a pain. Near as I can tell, our floor has 5 circuits, one dedicated for the washer dryer, then 4 that are apparently used at random around the floor. Somehow, I think we managed to do something very bad to one or two of them. Earlier this evening, we had two air conditioners running (one in bedroom, one in living room), two computers running (same room, but one powered from the other bedroom), and Delia attempted to make nachos in the microwave, which apparently put something over the top, and blew at least one circuit. Here’s the weird part; resetting the breakers in the basement did nothing. They weren’t even tripped when I went down there. We have no power in the bedrooms or the dining room/kitchen. We do have power in the front half of the living room, one plug on the outside wall of the dining room/kitchen, the bathroom, and the pantry/kitchen. I was only able to determine that one of the breakers actually does anything.

I really have no idea what’s wrong with it at this point. I’m guessing either something in the panel fried (though it’s brand new, installed just after we moved in) or some of the wiring along the way cooked itself.

At least we still have one A/C working, so we’re not cooking in here, and I managed to use some heavy duty extension cords to get my computer, the cable modem, and the router back up. Not going to leave them up though, since I have no idea what’s going on with power at the moment.

Overall, today has sucked.

Fortune Cookies

March 2nd, 2004 3 comments

You will always be surrounded by true friends.

While I was updating some old posts to use the new fortune cookie banner thing, I ran across this fortune and it’s associated comment. What with Andrea getting in touch with me again recently, it makes me think. She probably thinks I’m quite the jackass at this point, but do I really care what she thinks of me anymore?

You will always have good luck in your personal affairs.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAH

Ahem. cough yeah.

Anyway, those of you who read my home page, rather than the LiveJournal copy of it, might notice that fortune cookies now have a little fortune cookie icon with them. I think it looks neat. No idea if it’s actually showing up in Internet Explorer though.
