Old building wiring is such a pain. Near as I can tell, our floor has 5 circuits, one dedicated for the washer dryer, then 4 that are apparently used at random around the floor. Somehow, I think we managed to do something very bad to one or two of them. Earlier this evening, we had two air conditioners running (one in bedroom, one in living room), two computers running (same room, but one powered from the other bedroom), and Delia attempted to make nachos in the microwave, which apparently put something over the top, and blew at least one circuit. Here’s the weird part; resetting the breakers in the basement did nothing. They weren’t even tripped when I went down there. We have no power in the bedrooms or the dining room/kitchen. We do have power in the front half of the living room, one plug on the outside wall of the dining room/kitchen, the bathroom, and the pantry/kitchen. I was only able to determine that one of the breakers actually does anything.

I really have no idea what’s wrong with it at this point. I’m guessing either something in the panel fried (though it’s brand new, installed just after we moved in) or some of the wiring along the way cooked itself.

At least we still have one A/C working, so we’re not cooking in here, and I managed to use some heavy duty extension cords to get my computer, the cable modem, and the router back up. Not going to leave them up though, since I have no idea what’s going on with power at the moment.

Overall, today has sucked.

So, I’ve been pretty busy this past week, too busy to post anything apparently. For the most part I’ve been up to no good, hanging out with Delia a lot, Dan and Tim a bit as well. Evil Dave is back in town for this week, spent some time with him over the weekend as well. Most of last week is a blur, though I do remember staying up all night on Wednesday, hanging out with Delia, Shadow, and Tom at Denny’s for far too long, then deciding there wasn’t enough time to sleep and go to work, so we just stayed up for an extra hour and then I went to work. It was an interesting night.

Oh yes, and Thursday, while Ben, Dan, Delia, Tim and I were enjoying a pizza at the local Pizza Hut (no longer in Milford, as that one has shut down) someone driving what I can only guess to be a rather large truck backed into my Focus. I now have a nice dent in the panel above the driver’s side rear wheel. It could be worse, there’s nothing broken, just a big dent. I should probably see about having it pulled.

Friday I hung out at JLC with Dan, supposedly for an upgrade, though nothing terrible upgrade-like happened. Saturday, Dan, Delia, and I went geocaching, finding one of the caches that Big Dave and I tried for before but could not find. Delia made quick work of it, finding the second point and the final cache with little help from Dan or I. We tried for a second cache but gave up, deciding it was too cold for us to continue.

Sunday, Dave and I had planned on going to see Big Fish, and ending up stealing Delia to go with us. Upon arriving at the theater however, the showtime was gone; either sold out or just gone, I don’t know. So we decided after some debate to see The Passion of the Christ instead (it was either that or Along Came Polly “at least we don’t have to watch the previews for it anymore”.) Not being the religious sort, I’m not too opinionated about the movie. Yeah, it was bloody, but assuming these are even close to the events described in the Bible, then they should be bloody. Overall, I thought it was fairly well done, and it probably worth seeing, though I don’t think I’d bother renting it to see again any time soon.

Had a pretty good weekend, despite it being Valentine’s Day. I was originally thinking I wasn’t going to have anything to do, so made plans to head up to the Loft to hang out with the ninjas, play video games, and whatnot. Instead we had a bit of an Anti-Valentine’s Day get-together on Friday night with Amanda, Dan, Delia and Tim. We played some Jenga and just generally hung out at the apartment. Dan mentioned doing a movie night at his place sometime, which would be cool.

Saturday I spent most of the day working on Shadow, the HTPC, so that Delia could watch some of the episodes of Invader Zim that I’ve got in DivX. It’s at the point now where it outputs to the TV and can play stuff, but overscan is still having issues (apparently nVidia broke it in one of their driver versions) and I need to get the remote working again. Picked up Delia from work in the evening, hung out at her place for a bit, and ended up heading to one of the pizza places downtown to meet angry_amy and some of her friends. That was rather odd for me, since she was quite drunk. Cool to meet new people though. Hope to meet them again when they’re sober sometime.

Today has been pretty quiet. Worked on Shadow and Terra a bit, and have been thinking of doing some work on the I-Opener, but haven’t gotten that adventurous yet. Maybe I’ll save that for another weekend. Did go out for a bit to grab dinner with Tim and Ben at KFC, mostly to annoy Amanda for a bit. Also swung by Wal-Mart and picked up Metroid: Zero Mission for GBA. Played it a little bit so far, seems to have been done very well. I’ll write up a review later on, maybe.

Had a fairly eventful weekend. Started off somewhat late on Friday night, heading over to doornail’s to start watching The 10th Kingdom, which has got to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. Funny though, just need to find the time to see the rest of it now.

Saturday I had a late lunch with Delia then picked up Tim, Dan, and Amanda to head back to my apartment for the afternoon. Upon arriving at home, I found my kitchen sink full to the brim with a somewhat murky water and the remains of what appeared to be rice. This was rather odd, since I hadn’t even used that sink in the past week or so. Called up maintainance, the first guy attempted to plunge the thing, but it did nothing, so he called in reinforcements. The second guy brought some heavier ammunition, and ended up vacuuming the liquid out of the sink and pouring some sort of acid in to break the clog. I guess the people in the apartment above mine dumped out something stupid, and it clogged the drain, causing it to flow back into my sink.

Eventually, after the kitchen was finally usable again, Amanda made us linguine with a vodka sauce, which I thought was quite tasty, despite her repeated claims otherwise. At some point in the evening I picked up Delia, and she joined us in playing Jenga and Scategories for a while. A good time was had by all.

For Sunday, we had planned to do a Godzilla marathon as a sort of anti-superbowl party, but I ended up sleeping through most of one Godzilla movie (I hadn’t gotten to sleep until about 7am the previous morning, and even then didn’t sleep very soundly) and woke up to the sounds of Dan and Tim playing Soul Calibur 2. Around this point Delia showed up, and we proceeded to play a game of Star Wars Monopoly. I didn’t do so well, and Delia eventually won, after Tim eventually surrendered.

Today was a fairly standard day at work, got some stuff done, nothing terribly exciting. This evening has been spent doing some minor cleanup around the apartment. It’s kindof odd being here alone after having people around all weekend. And to think I used to like being alone.

Oh yeah, Friday I also made up a little graph of the interconnections between my friends. Remember when LiveJournal used to have a link to do that? I’ve been thinking of having it display a different color for friends depending on how many interests you have in common with them. Just a fun little diversion.

Also, I’ve completed the first month of my diet, and have decided to share my data with the world.

Well, it’s been a rather busy week, let’s see if I can remember it all…

Last Friday Tim and I went down into Boston, didn’t see anything I really wanted to buy at Tokyo Kid or the book store, so we just kindof wandered around the city for a bit before heading back. On Saturday, Delia and I went geocaching, hitting one cache in New Boston and another in Milford. This doubled my number of found caches, and I hope to get out and hit some more soon. We also picked up her computer from her aunt’s house, which turned out to be horribly slow. I felt it was my duty as a geek to use up some of my spare parts to build a better one. I ended up using the board I pulled out of Magus last week, so it worked out pretty well. Glad to see the old board still getting used, rather than collecting dust on a shelf someplace. I’ve had that board since high school, I think.

Tuesday evening I went with Dan, Tim, and Amanda to the Kucinich post-NH-primary party (almost alliteration, aarg!) which was pretty cool. I even got to shake his hand. Delia ending up finding me there, and we hung out for a while afterwards.

Wednesday… hmm… I don’t remember it clearly. I think I may have had a headache. I seem to recall building up the new system for Delia, and I may have hung out with Tim for a bit.

Thursday night I went over to give Delia her new (old) computer and rip some a part or two out of her old system, get Windows installed, and generally get it all happy. It took longer than I expected, but I got a back massage out of it, which was cool. She also introduced me to these grape gummy things from the asian market. So very tasty. I have two left, trying to make them last. Oh, she also let me borrow her Squee! book, which is cool, since I’ve never read it. Yay!

Many events of the week have lost their place in time. I seem to recall a couple games of Uno, a few rounds of Jenga, a couple of turns at Mastermind. Somewhere along the way this got taken. I’m thinking of submitting it to ThinkGeek as an action shot. I seem to recall a couple of late night grocery shopping trips, which is cool, because I didn’t realize we had a 24/7 grocery store.

In other news, work has been rather annoying as of late. The project I’ve been working on is beginning to go online, so we’re finding a lot of the little annoying bugs. At least I didn’t have to go up north again today, I manage to get Mark to let me stay in the office and work on the system via modem. I’ll be happy once this place is up and running.

Oh, and in geek news, in addition to putting together that other system, I’ve also got Interceptor, my SPARCstation 10, up and running NetBSD 1.6.1. I’ve got a couple of issues to work out, since it likes to crash when I insert a wireless card. I hope to replace my Netgear router with it soon.

Well, that’s about all I can remember at this point. I know I’ve left out a ton of stuff, but my brain is drawing a blank on a lot of it.

This week is starting to look up. After spending all of Sunday night working on some software, then driving up past North Conway to install it, things have calmed down at work a bit. I’ve got a couple of broken boxes to repair, but they seem to be coming along pretty well. And Mark said I could have Friday off, which is nice. I think I may grab some friends and head into Boston for the day.

Last night I met two people IRL that I’d been talking to on AIM for a bit. First, Tim, Amanda and I met up with Krystle (hope I spelled it right) for dinner, then we all went back to my apartment to watch 28 Days Later. Krystle seems like a pretty cool person, fairly quiet though, though I imagine it’s somewhat uncomfortable to be new person in the group. She and Tim seem to be getting along quite well. After driving people back to Milford, Delia (doornail) caught me on AIM and invited me out for coffee. That was fun, though I was pretty tired at that point. Neither of us actually drank any coffee. Ended up staying out way too late. Looking forward to geocaching on Saturday with her.

Oh, and in geek news, Magus, my server at IronCastle, is now running off a VIA mini-ITX board, replacing it’s aging ASUS P5A with it’s K6-2 350. The kind patrons of GoodRoms Heaven donated some cash so I could buy a larger drive for it, which wasn’t recognized by the old board’s BIOS. But it’s all happy now. Freed up a bunch of cards that were in that box in the process, like my old DVD decoder card, SCSI adapter, and a frame grabber. I’ll probably put those into the Linux box I’m building for home, just to play with. That reminds me, I still need a name for that box.

Seems like all I’ve been doing recently is working. It’s not entirely true, since I have been doing other things, like going to a mini LAN party at JLC on Friday night, but for the most part I’ve just been at work trying to get things ready for the pumping station installation up in Lower Bartlett. We’re supposed to go do it tomorrow, and I think we’re finally in good shape for it. Hope it doesn’t get as cold as it was last week again.

Other than that, not a lot going on. The diet seems to be coming along fairly well. I feel good about it, and I hope I can keep up with it. I need to start getting more exercise as well, but with the weather as bad as it’s been, I don’t really feel compelled to start taking walks. Hopefully as things warm up that will get better. I really want to go geocaching again.

Oh, Dan got me a MouseRug for Christmas, the Old World Map one. These things are great. I didn’t really think much of them before, but now that I have one, I really like them. The texture is really nice, much nicer than a plain cloth covered mousepad. Gamers would probably argue that it’s not as smooth as the fancier gaming pads, but I think it’ll do quite nicely. I want to get another one for home soon.
