Went to see The Matrix Reloaded last night. Somewhat mixed feelings about the movie. On one hand, the fight scenes and CG looked very nice. The CG may have been a little over the top in a few cases, making it somewhat hard to suspend disbelief, but it was visually impressive throughout. However, it didn’t really have the same feel as the first one, where The Matrix was a great, groundbreaking movie, Reloaded is just a good action film. Still doesn’t stop me from enjoying it and wanted to see it again, however.

Which I will be, this weekend by the sounds of it. A group of people I know through CS and IRC are getting together to go see it, and I’ve been invited to tag along. Should be fun.

In other news, I’m going to be borrowing a computer from work to start doing HTPC things with. I think it’s a K6-III 500Mhz or so, not 100% sure. I need to dig up some RAM from it before I can do much. I want to just get the Matrox card into it, get some software loaded up, and see how certain things handle on the TV. Just a proof-of-concept sort of deal. My eventual plan is to upgrade my main PC and use it’s leftover guts to build the final HTPC.

Oh, and I picked up Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow for GBA. It’s been pretty fun so far, something to play in my spare time at home. I think I need to get an Afterburner to install in it though. Still can’t see what I’m doing half the time.

That’s what I’ve been hearing about Reloaded… not quite as good as the first but a true action flick through and through. Going to see it this afternoon, so we’ll see.

What are you planning on upgrading your main PC to?

I’ve been thinking of throwing in an nForce2 board, probably the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, and bring the CPU up to something in the 2400ish range.

NOOOOOO. Not the A7N8X!!!! It’s the devil!!! Well. Ok, maybe not the devil. But do a google search for “A7N8X issues” before you’re set on buying one cause there’s lots.

Oh, and I have those same issues with the movie… which are discussed at length in a very long post elsewhere (*cough* shameless plug cough).

Your search - “A7N8X issues” - did not match any documents.

really, I just put it into Google and got 3500.

    the first ten were:
    “A7N8X Ram Issues”

    “A7N8X mobo - issues - Tek-Tips”

    “A7N8X + WinXP cdrom issues”

    “A7N8X Deluxe - Sound issues & Dual…”

“View topic - Issues with Motherboard …”

    “A7N8X mobo doesn’t recognize my XP processor…”

    etc.

mostly that board has problems with Athlons in the 2400+ to 2800+ range as well as some issues with certain brands of memory. the on board audio is also said to be poop. :)

take a look at the Abit NF7 (S or M versions). It’s got all the same standard stuff as the Asus board plus has onboard vga and a bunch of other extras.

Oh, you searched without quotes, though you put quotes around it here. I see. Keep in mind that there are multiple revs of the board out now, the newest ones have a different rev of the nForce 2 then the originals. People in #techreport have been telling me that the new boards are the best things out there at the moment. Seeing as they test these things for a living, I tend to believe them :)

That’s true. I would tend to believe TR as well. I’m not sure what rev of the board we got but it might have been an older one. I just told here where to order it from (newegg) and she did the rest. All I know is that with the asus it failed to pass POST and with the abit she was rendering frames in Maya last night. I’m sure if you have problems with the board you’d be able to fix them better than I would (tried to) anyway.

Yeah, one of the guys I trust a lot basically said to get either the Abit NF7-S or the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. I’m not really sure which to get. My old ASUS P5A is still chugging along pretty good, though it was somewhat buggy with AGP. I don’t really have any experience with Abit boards.
