Website DNSBL
Posted by Chip under Website
Giving something new a try in the battle against blog spam; DNSBLs. It works for e-mail, so maybe it’ll work for the web too. I’ve rigged up Apache with mod_access_dnsbl to query Spamhaus’s XBL and SBL for each request and to reply with “not authorized” if the they’re listed in the DNSBL. I also rigged up my own local DNSBL zone so I can list the IPs of the spam that Akismet catches.
So, if you can’t read this, let me know.

Are you getting that much spam? And akismet isn’t doing the job?

I get one or two a day that get by the captcha and Akismet. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s enough to be annoying.
