Andrea was bugging me that I haven’t written an update here for a while, so here we go.
I’ve been working on a new version of cmail, my mail counting script. It’s a complete rewrite of version 4, and I think I’ll call it 4.1. It’s got pretty much the same modular interface that 4 did. It currently supports mbox, maildir, and POP3, and I’m going to make an IMAP4 module for it. So far it’s only got plain text and color text output modules. I think I might make a Gnome panel output module at some point.
Why this sudden rewrite? Well, I messed up the CVS repository that the old version was in, and I needed to add maildir support. Why maildir support? Because I switched all my incoming mail from mbox to maildir, since we’re thinking about putting Courier IMAP on Hindenburg, and it only supports maildir. So far I’m pretty happy with the format.
Andrea’s roommate gave me an old laptop she was going to throw out. It’s a Toshiba T4500C. It appears to have a 200MB hard drive, 12MB of RAM, and a 486 CPU. Not sure on the clock speed yet. I’ll figure it out eventually. It had a 3Com 3C562 Ethernet/Modem PC Card in it, but it’s missing the dongles, so it’s kindof useless. If I can find dongles, then I may use this as a dial-up router at home. Might be interesting. Right now it’s installing FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE over a serial PPP link at 57600bps. This may take a while.
